Marathi Ganyanchi Mehfil - January 15, 2011

Venue: Nilisha and Sirish Yadwakar's Residence
Timings : 6:30 to 9:30 pm

The Mehfil was a major success.

The invitations for the mehfil requested the audience to reach at 6:30. The audience started assembling by 7 pm. At full quorum there were around 20 people .

Our MC for the Day was Mr. Yatin Samant.

The participants were
  1. Shraddha Prabhu
  2. Krishna Prabhu
  3. Chitra Kulkarni
  4. Nilisha Yadwadkar
  5. Yatin Samant
The program started with the invocation of the Sun god's blessings by Chitra,Shraddha and Nilisha . The song was "Gagan Sadan Tejomay" originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar.

This was followed by "Keshava Madhava" a Bhaktigeet by Nilisha.

Chitra then rendered the song "Aaj Kunitari Yaave" in her well trained voice.

Next was a duet by Shraddha and Krishna - A koligeet -> Gomu Sangateen . The interesting thing that occurred was that Shraddha and Krishna's son Pratham (all of 3 years old) joined his parents in singing this song. IT was surprising to not only the audience but also his parents since he sang the whole song with them (and they didn't even know that he knew it by rote)!!

Yatin then sang the endearing song by Arun Date -> Bhet Tujhi Nee Maajhi Smarate.

Here the session took a break for a light snacks time. All the participants has pot-lucked to set up the snacks. There was Dhokla, Fingerchips, Bhel, Wafers, Solkadi , Softdrinks and chutney. everyone enjoyed this.

Post this, the Mehfil started with a guitar demo by Tanay, Nilisha's Son.

A Lavani, which is an essential part of any Marathi Mehfil was taken up by Shraddha -> Reshamachya Reghani

Nilisha then sang Mendichya Panavar in her sweet voice.

Shraddha was back with her peppy song "Lat pat Lat pat Tujha Chalana"

Following this was the romantic number "Shukratara Mandwara" a duet sang by Yatin and Shraddha

The Last song for the day was by Chitra , She sang Jivalaga Rahile Door Ghar Maajhe" mellifluously.

Towards the end, Sirish Yadwadkar, in the true spirit of a host, dispensed Barbecued veggies. The Evening drew to a yummy end savouring these.

Thank you to all of you who attended this Mehfil and motivated the participants.

We hope to have more in the future and of course you are free to join us in any capacity.
